Now i will be honest im a little bit of a Montane fanboi,i have a couple of jackets from them and a pair of Montane minimus pants. For fit and functionality i find them really hard to beat.
I have been on the lookout for a lightweight windproof to add to my arsenal, particularly to chuck in my race vest on ultras when i’m getting a little cold but not cold enough to grab a full waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, a piece of kit that is mandatory for more or less every ultra in the UK. The problem with waterproofs are no matter how expensive they are they still make you sweat!
Now this won’t be to replace the waterproof jacket but rather to be another option on my run/races.
I noticed the Montane featherlite trail jacket on Sportshoes.com which is where i buy most of my gear and for the price £37.99 i thought i would give it go!
I opted for a lovely alpine sun colour- its orange! I always buy bright coloured jackets if possible as i will be easier to spot on the hills of im in trouble!!
It weighs in at 107g/3.8grams in a mens medium or two mars bars if that’s easier!
It folds away to almost nothing!
I opted for a small rather than my normal medium as i wanted a close fitting and as the jacket is made of a slight stretchy material it fits perfectly.
It has little vents under the armpits that are supposed to help vent out heat, i can’t comment if they work as i usually sweat like a race horse anyway! it also has the essential thumb loops for a better fit around the wrist/keeping your hands warm!
The neck is close fitting, not restrictive but i know it is there,it’s no worse than a buff.
Most important for me,there is a brushed fleece beard guard for extra comfort and less screams!
It has reflective VIA logos on various spots to help you to be seen at night, but that’s about it,no pockets or phone holders which for me is exactly what i wanted.
I’ve had it a couple of weeks now and i haven’t taken it off, it’s been great for shoving in my pack, wearing for training runs and shoving on after events. i have even ran in light showers and i have been dry when i got home.
For sub £40 this is fast becoming one of my fave jackets.
As with all reviews,i paid for this product myself and did not receive it from a brand or supplier.
